Question: What building required over 2000 pieces of steel weighing more than 740 tonnes, 4,100 square metres of metal decking and 500 metres of Glulam beams?

Answer: The students at Sir John Deane’s College would be able to tell you it was their state-of-the-art new main college building, which provided them with fantastic new facilities for a new Learning Resource Centre and classrooms, approached through a dramatic new entrance. The college, which is rated “Outstanding” by OFSTED, now has the building to match.

The team at Henry Smith (C/E) Ltd loved working as part of this £28million project creating eight buildings with stunning visual impact when the students enter the campus. The environment was also a key consideration and the buildings were awarded the BREEAM “Very Good” accreditation in 2010. By working closely in a collaborative way the team delivered an exceptional project for the client – the quality of which really shines through. Full marks, we think!
